1 - DIVERSITY OF ASSOCIATED MICROBIOMES AND PLANTS AND ANIMALS

This line uses dependent and independent cultivation methods to access the diversity of species in the microbiome associated with plants and animals.

Strains of bacteria, yeasts and filamentous fungi are preserved by freezing for ex situ preservation. The genetic material is extracted and kept at -20ºC to preserve the genetic biodiversity of the microbiome.

2 - DEVELOPMENT OF PRODUCTS AND MICROBIOLOGICAL PROCESSES APPLIED TO AGROINDUSTRY, ENVIRONMENTAL AND MEDICAL: BIOLOGICAL CONTROL OF PHYTOPATHOGENS (FUNGUS AND NEMATODES), DEVELOPMENT OF LARVICIDES, METHORREMEDIATION OF METHODS

Cultivated microorganisms have different functional traits (secretion of hydrolytic enzymes, siderophores, antimicrobial compounds, organic acids, etc.) that can be applied in the development of processes such as biological control of phytopathogenic fungi or disease-carrying insect larvae.

Some strains obtained by our group are efficient as tools in the bioremediation of mercury in substrate and aquatic environment, either through the volatilization or adsorption of the metal.

In addition, bacteria and fungi from our collection of microorganisms are able to promote plant growth.

3 - ECOTOXICOLOGICAL TESTS

Our laboratory has implemented tests to assess the impact of physical and chemical agents on model organisms. Currently, we use the following model organisms: larvae of the moth Galleria mellonella , cells of the algae Chlorella vulgaris BR017 and Scenedesmus sp, protozoan Tetrahymena pyriformis and the nematode Caenorhabditis elegans
